Pilates

Joseph Pilates devised an exercise program that would improve his own body and the world of gymnastics, boxing and circus performing.   Joseph migrated to the USA in the early 1920’s and set up a studio in New York where he gained a strong following from some of the best known actors, dancers, singers and performers of the day.  The method of Pilates has had resurgence in popularity over recent years and has continued to be expanded and developed.    Scientific evidence is beginning to provide explanations for why this and other methods work as well as providing clearer criteria for sorting the huge repertoire of exercises into a logical format. The Clinical Pilates program pioneered the link between the evolving research on stabilisation training and the traditional Pilates work.

Craig Phillips, the founder of Clinical Pilates has taken his 10 years experience with the Australian Ballet Company and combining with his Physiotherapy training to develop a scientific approach to Pilates.

FUNctional Pilates is based on Nateele Taylor’s Clinical Pilates, her Physiotherapy training and sports medicine background.  FUNctional Pilates is safe, evidence based and can cater for all age groups and fitness levels. FUNctional Pilates utilises floor exercises to focus on the control of muscle rather than “strength”.  To execute the exercises properly a stable, controlled pelvis and shoulder girdle is established, then loading of the extremities is used to facilitate both local and global muscles. The benefits of FUNctional Pilates:

  • helps recover body shape and tone after pregnancy, surgery or illness

Yoga & Pilates

Yoga & Pilates is a fusion of the best of ancient yogi practice with the core stabilising, functional, and regenerative dynamics of Pilates. Yoga dates back to around 3000BC and aims to create union between the body and mind, improving overall wellbeing. It enhances strength, stamina, aerobic capacity, flexibility, balance and mental clarity – engaging the whole person. Yoga – based stretching and strengthening exercises or asanas and relaxation techniques are very effective in creating an environment that optimizes the potential for healing.

Pilates, founded by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s, is a system of muscular skeletal exercises and is the culmination of years of human endeavor to perfect body development & physical training. These exercises demonstrate how the body works in functional movement through isolating specific muscle groups, in particular the postural muscles.

Both Pilates and Yoga share similar postures, Pilates however, emphasizes the importance of utilizing the stabilizing muscles of the body while in movement to create a very safe and strong foundation to exert movement. Yoga & Pilates is a complete and comprehensive fusion of Yoga and Pilates. It is an ever evolving method at the cutting edge of the latest medical and scientific research into how the human body functions during movement, combining theoretical knowledge and practice. It is a movement system that stretches and strengthens all the major muscle groups developing a streamlined slenderness rather than bulk. At the same time it has excellent therapeutic value for calming the mind and spirit.

Physiotherapy Rehabilitation

Health Studio Group injury philosophy revolves around an accurate and specific diagnosis. This is then followed by an effective treatment plan to meet both your short and long term rehabilitation goals.

Our Physiotherapists have been trained to thoroughly assess and accurately diagnose your injury. If more tests are needed before deciding on a treatment plan, you will be promptly referred, e.g. X-rays or ultrasounds.  At the end of your assessment, your Physiotherapist will discuss with you, their findings and outline treatment options available.  Together you will decide on the most appropriate treatment plan and goals specifically for you. Your Physiotherapist will provide you with easy to understand explanations regarding the nature of your injury, the diagnosis, and the necessary healing process, along with clear advice of the “do’s and don’t” to give your body the best possible chance of healing.

We whole heartily believe in the prevention of future injury’s or decline in your physical health, with this in mind, your Physiotherapist can assist you with a plan to maintain or improve your functional potential.

At present this is a mobile service, so this will be offered in the comfort of your own home.

The main goal of the Kickstart Healthy Lifestyle Challenge is to give you a friendly boot up the backside that you need to take action to leading a healthier life.

This is only a four week challenge to those that are committed, really committed to having a good hard look at their lifestyle right now, then taking action to stepping forward to the lifestyle that is so desired.
